Galway islands counting cost of another weather hit

Published

Some minor roads in the county remain closed this morning due to flooding.

Director of Services with Galway County Council, Liam Gavin, says some of worst affected areas are Kinvara, Spiddal, Oranmore, and the Aran Islands.

High winds coupled with high tide and heavy rainfall have hampered efforts by the Council to repair roads and alleviate flooding.

Liam Gavin of Galway County Council is urging motorists to be careful on county roads until they are free of flooding.

Michael Muldoon is a resident on Inis Mór.

He told Keith Finnegan on Galway Talks, that the island has been badly hit again and urgent work is needed.

Simon Murray is a manager on Inishbofin and says the island needs to get some help from the County Council now, as they haven’t yet visited the island.

Deputy Canney said we cannot blame people for using cars when we’re doing nothing to provide or improve public transport options.
