Foot and mouth

Foot and mouth disease having again after a period of decline became extremely prevalent in Great Britain. The Department has renewed the warnings issued with regard to the danger of the spread of infection in the country.

During the past fortnight numerous outbreaks have occurred in various parts of England, and fresh centres of disease are being discovered almost daily.

The feeling of confidence that the danger of an invasion of Ireland had passed, or was passing, is therefor no longer warranted, and it is best to recognise that the need for every possible safeguard has again become acute.

Fortunately, it is learned that there has been no relaxation of the original precautions, and these will be kept in full operation until the position in Great Britain can be said to have returned to normal. To give full effect to them the cooperation of all persons connected to the live stock trade is indispensable.
