Galway headquartered Smyths Toys to buy out European division of Toys R Us

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Smyths Toys, which is headquartered in the city, is to pay up to 79 million euro for the central European division of Toys R Us.
The deal has been agreed as part of the US liquidation of the Toys R Us group.
Toys R Us has 90 outlets in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.
According to the Irish Times, the deal is expected to lead to a major expansion of the Smyths brand across the continent.
When the deal is complete, Smyths will have up to 200 outlets which includes 28 in Ireland.
The firm is owned by a Mayo family and has its city base at Galway Retail Park on the Headford Road.

Refusal of Clifden housing development appealed to An Bord Pleanala

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The refusal of a housing development in Clifden has been appealed to An Bord Pleanala.

The project, led by TML Properties, would see 27 homes constructed at St. Anne’s Road on the north side of the town.

County planners turned down the proposals in October, citing concerns over the potential impact on the local habitat.

That decisions been appealed to An Bord Pleanala, with a decision due in March.

On December 17th, Tánaiste Leo Varadkar will return to the Taoiseach position, taking over from Micheal Martin, as part of the planned cabinet reshuffle.

Enquiries ongoing following road collision in Claregalway last night

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Gardaí attended to a road traffic collision in Claregalway last night at around 10.15pm.

A car collided with a wall on the Tuam Road.

The driver received non-serious injuries and was attended to by ambulance.

Enquiries are ongoing.
