Galway consultants highlight lack of intensive care resources
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Two Galway hospital consultants are among a group from around the country who are expressing concern about intensive care resources.
Dr. Patrick Neligan and Dr. Michael Scully, both consultants in Intensive Care Medicine at UHG have joined their counterparts from other hospitals to highlight the issue.
In a letter in today’s Irish Times, the consultants, who are members of the Intensive Care Society of Ireland, highlight a 2008 report which showed that intensive care was below standard in Ireland.
However half way through that timeframe, the bed capacity has been significantly reduced.
The consultants feel that more resources need to be poured into intensive care facilities, otherwise there is concern that patients who are seriously ill would not be allocated a bed.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Tourism Minister believes Roderic O’Gorman has correctly negotiated the mother and baby home redress scheme.
Catherine Martin’s comments follow harsh criticism from the opposition on the scheme.
40 percent of survivors have been excluded from the scheme, as they spent less than six months in mother and baby homes.

Leo Varadkar tells Dáil he “remains a supporter” of Galway City Ring Road

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has told the Dáil that he remains a supporter of the Galway City Ring Road.
It’s as An Bord Pleanala is to reconsider an application for the Galway Ring Road, after permission was quashed on environmental grounds.
The Taoiseach was asked by Deputy Ciaran Cannon about delays to double-tracking train services between Athenry and Oranmore.
Deputy Cannon said he understood a long-awaited feasibility study has somehow now been attached to an all-island rail review.
Leo Varadkar said that’s not something he agrees with.

Councillor organises cross border information clinic in Castledaly for HSE waiting list patients

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Gort-Kinvara area councillor Geraldine Donohue has organised an information clinic for today for people who are on the HSE Waiting List and looking for faster treatment or surgery in Northern Ireland.
The Independent councillor is calling it a Cross Broder Clinic as it will be attended by representatives from Kingsbridge Hospital Belfast
The information clinic is being held at St Thomas GAA Club in Castledaly in Loughrea today from 9.30am to 4.30pm
