Galway city man admits assaulting four Gardaí Galway city man admits assaulting four Gardaí

A 30-year-old man has confirmed pleas of guilty to assaulting four Gardaí at a property in Galway City earlier this year.

Charlie Collins, with an address at 3 Cois Na Coille, Ballybane, appeared at Galway Circuit Court accused of four offences contrary to section 19 (1) of the Criminal Justice (Public Order) Act.

He was sent forward from the District Court on signed pleas of guilty, which entitles an accused person to credit at sentencing.

The signed plea procedure is in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Act 1967.

After the charges were put to him, the accused was told he could alter his plea.

Collins confirmed he was pleading guilty to four offences.

In the case, Collins faces four separate charges of assaulting peace officers — Garda Aaron Kinsella: Garda Cian O’Boyle; Garda Pat Foley; Garda Daragh O’Shaughnessy — in the execution of their duties at 3 Cois Na Coille, Ballybane on January 21, 2025, knowing they were peace officers or being reckless as to whether they were.

Judge Brian O’Callaghan adjourned the case to December 2 for mention only.
