City Councillor Eibhlín Seoighthe has resigned from the Social Democrats.

The city central councillor will remain on the council, but is no longer with the party.

It’s understood that she informed party colleagues of the decision this morning.

It’s not yet known why she resigned, and she hasn’t yet responded to Galway Bay fm news’ request for a comment.

Councillor Seoighthe was elected to the City Council last June.

She went on to unsuccessfully contest the November General Election for the Social Democrats in Galway West.
