It was a night of celebration for Galway Bay FM at the IMRO National Radio Awards last Friday, as the station scooped four awards – including a gold award for Best Sports Programme, from the seven nominations it had received in August.
Galway Bay FM was the second best Local/Regional Radio Station for nominations received and in the Top Three for awards received.
The Gold Award was for their Connacht Club Championship Special that was broadcast from four venues across the county on November 11 last year, Silver was for the ‘Galway Talks’ current affairs programme entitled ‘Violent Schooldays’ presented by Keith Finnegan and produced by John Morley and Bronze Awards went to the radio drama ‘One Day’ and the sports story ‘Cliona Darcy wins Gold’.
“It is really difficult to win an All-Ireland in anything, so to land a gold award is a tremendous achievement for our sports team, given the huge competition that exists across the entire country,” said a delighted Galway Bay FM Head of Sport, Ollie Turner.
“The programme we broadcast from Clifden, Moycullen, Dunmore, and Clonberne showcased the connection we have in every parish in a big county. We have a loyal listenership that depends on Galway Bay FM to highlight what is happening in their area, so we take great pride in bringing them relevant, accurate and quality stories every day in news, sport, and current affairs.”
“This is due recognition for the wonderful work being done by all the team in Galway Bay FM, from on-air presenters to administration staff and our contributors, all of whom make the station what it is today,” added CEO of Galway Bay FM Cormac O’Halloran.
“To get four national awards from seven nominations, is something we are very proud of. We continue to provide quality broadcasting, which is nationally recognised, to our listeners”.
