Galway Bay fm newsroom – A North-West MEP has sent two very serious Garda whistleblower files to the Minister for Justice.
Fine Gael’s Jim Higgins says the whistleblowers came to him because of his work for the McBrearty family, who had been wrongly accused of murder.
Speaking to Galway Bay fm News, MEP Higgins says there are very serious allegations in the files.

Galway units of the Civil Defence encourage people to volunteer
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway units of the Civil Defence are calling for people to come forward to volunteer with them.
One member, Louie Casserly, says numbers are the lowest they’ve ever been in her 36 years volunteering.
Based in Oranmore, Louie says COVID-19 impacted their numbers when they were at their busiest time.
The group were recently honoured at a ceremony in Croke Park, and Louie explains how people can get involved:

A local TD is voicing criticism of the model of public-private partnership to deliver large public infrastructure projects.
A PPP is an arrangement between a public authority and a private partner designed to deliver a public infrastructure project and service under a long-term contract.
It’s used in areas including social housing, healthcare and education.
Deputy Mairead Farrell says this model of delivery is supposed to deliver better value for money and greater efficiency.
But, Galway West Sinn Féin Deputy Farrell says this simply is not happening in many cases,
Uber taxi service launches in Galway
Galway Bay fm newsroom – From today people in Galway will be able to book a taxi through Uber, making it the third city Uber has launched in Ireland outside Dublin.
The US-based firm says the launch is a response to a significant increase in demand in Galway, with thousands of local residents opening the Uber app in recent months.
The first drivers are already on the road and Uber says it aims to bring at least 100 drivers onto the platform by the end of the year.
Uber was founded in 2009 and now operates in 72 countries and over 10 thousand cities.
