Gáire agus craic go leor will be delivered at Galway Comedy Festival 2025 with the return of the Gáire as Gaeilge stand-up night and two live recordings of the hugely popular How To Gael podcast.
As a West of Ireland based event, in the county with the largest Gaeltacht in Ireland, it is only natural that Galway Comedy Festival has chosen to provide a platform for the language and comedians with fluency to do stand-up as Gaeilge.
Gáire as Gaeilge, the Festival’s annual night of rí-rá agus ruaille buaille takes place in the Pálás this Thursday 7.30pm, with Hector Ó hEochagáin, Al Porter, Galway’s Eddie Mullarkey, and Páraic Breathnach. Luíonn gáire (‘fits of laughter) are promised.
For people whose Irish is not perfect, or for those who don’t have any Irish at all, How to Gael is a funny, friendly and enjoyable language lesson.
Live recordings of the podcast will take place in the Pálás Cinema this Friday and Saturday, at 7.30pn nightly, when Doireann Ní Ghlacáin, Louise Cantillon and Síomha Ní Ruairc will treat audiences to lively and engaging bilingual conversations and discussions, covering everything from current affairs to pop culture.
How To Gael, which has been described by The Irish Times as “funny and candid”, aims to promote the use of Irish in everyday life, as a living language and a way in which people can have a laugh.
Galway Comedy Festival runs until Monday, October 27. For more information on these and other events, and to book tickets, go to www.GalwayComedyFestival.ie.
