Funding row rules out Macnas parade from Arts Festival

Published

There will be no Macnas parade in the city year as part of the Galway Arts Festival due to a disagreement between the company and festival organisers.

Macnas has confirmed that it was unable to reach an agreement with the Arts Festival regarding funding, after months of negotiation.

Macnas has presented parades in association with Galway Arts Festival since 1987.

Macnas says that the Arts Festival’s cash contribution to the cost of staging the parade in recent years has been less than 10 percent of the 100 thousand euro cost.

General Manager of Macnas, Sharon O’ Grady told Galway Bay fm News that they looked at various ways of trying to increase funds.

The artistic company, which has been a major participant in the Arts Festival in the past, plans to stage a parade in Galway later in the year.
