Eight Galway projects aimed at tackling a range of national and global issues have been awarded funding by Research Ireland

They are among 59 projects in total across the country receiving just under 700 thousand euro under the New Foundations programme.

The projects will address health, social, environmental, and economic challenges in Ireland and globally

The investment will support researchers in developing collaborative projects with community organisations and government departments.

The seven University of Galway projects are:

llan Wall – Legal Observer Training for Protests – just under €12,000

Siobhán Morrissey – Irish Children’s Books in the Classroom: Enhancing Pre-Service Teachers’ Knowledge of Irish Literature – just over €11,000

Maeve O’Rourke – Records and Rights: Model legislation for the future National Archives of Ireland Annex at the  National Centre for Research and Remembrance Dublin – €12,000

Caroline Heary – Le Chéile: Working together to support young people and families during the transition from paediatric to adult services – €12,000.00

Shane Darcy – Supporting accountability, facilitating exchange and engendering human rights in the protection, rebuilding and development of third level education in Palestine – €10,000

Kathy Sullivan – Supporting Pre-service Post-Primary Teachers’ Knowledge of Global Citizenship Education in the classroom – just under €10,000

Charles O’Mahony Living Independently & Free from Targeted abuse – just under €20,000

The Atlantic Technological University project to receive funding is Isobel Cunningham – Social Enterprises and the Shared Services Model – €20,000
