Dublin-born singer and bouzouki player Daoirí Farrell, an All-Ireland champion singer and the winner of several BBC Folk Awards, will be in concert at Monroe’s in the city this Saturday, September 21.

A product of Dublin’s famous club An Góilin Traditional Singers, who went on to study music at UL, Daoirí has been praised by Irish Music Magazine for “single-handedly spearheading a resurgence of the authentic in Irish folk music”.

His debut album, The First Turn, was released in 2009, with his breakthrough release, True Born Irishman, coming 2016, after he launched his solo career at the 2016 Celtic Connections Festival.

True Born Irishman  went on to win two prestigious BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.

Following 2019’s A Lifetime Of Happiness, which earned three nominations in RTÉ Radio 1 Folk Awards, Daoirí’s fourth album, The Wedding Above In Glencree, was released in 2023.

Christy Moore has stated that “Daoirí has assumed the mantle of Luke Kelly” while Dónal Lunny has described him as “one of the most important traditional singers to emerge in the last decade”.

His concert Backstage at Monroe’s takes place this Saturday night with doors at 7.30pm. Tickets are €22 + €2 booking charge at monroes.ie.
