Fire and Ice is the theme for the December issue of the Moth & Butterfly monthly night of storytelling and improvisation, which will take place in the city’s Blue Teapot Theatre, Munster Avenue, next Friday December 19. Doors are at 7pm, with the show starting at 7.30pm and featuring a mix of ensemble and guest performers
This winter celebration is a fundraiser for the 2026 Moth and Butterfly festival and a chance to buy early-bird tickets for that event.
Moth & Butterfly brings together the art forms of storytelling and improvisation.
There will be three types of storytelling on the night:
‘Moth’ Style Stories are short, true, thematic and feature the teller themselves as the central character. Stories can run about eight or nine minutes but shorter is fine. Improvised stories will be created fresh on the spot and no two will be the same.
There are different improvisational formats for these including: ‘Stories From The Hat’ (where the audience picks an object for the story) and ‘Found In Translation’ (where the tellers improvise and translate bilingually).
Free-fall stories/The Body of The Beast are all other stories that still fit the theme. These can be a traditional folk tale, a true story about someone else or a piece of oral fiction.
This is a night for oral storytelling and is for both tellers and listeners. Tellers from the audience generally email in advance to select a spot and people will be selected by ‘names in a hat’ system.
Tickets for Fire and Ice cost €20, available online via Eventbrite, which includes a welcoming beverage.
