From this week's Galway City Tribune
Sitting Fine Gael Councillor Frank Fahy is edging towards election following the second count for Galway City Central.
This follows the distribution of Independent Cllr Mike Cubbard’s surplus of 399 votes, following his election on the first count last night.
Cllr Fahy is 142 votes shy of the quota but will be significantly closer to the finish line following the next count which will see his party colleague, Cllr Eddie Hoare’s surplus of 195 votes distributed.
Following Cllr Fahy’s election, there will be three seats remaining to fill, with Fianna Fáil candidate Josie Forde certain to take one, and in contention is Sinn Féin’s Mark Lohan, Social Democrats’ Eibhlín Seoighthe and Labour’s John McDonagh.
Sitting Cllr Martina O’Connor (Green Party) looks set to lose her seat.
