Barry Cowen, the new MEP for Midlands Northwest, made it to Ballybrit for the Races.
But the former Fianna Fáil TD for Offaly mustn’t have ventured into the city as far as the Claddagh, where one of his election posters remains on a lamppost on Fr Griffin Road nearly two months after it should have been taken down.
We know it is Olympic season and record-breaking is fashionable but having an election poster on a lamppost exactly two months after polling day is taking the p*ss.
It’s not just Cowen’s fault; the poster also advertises his running mates, Senators Niall Blaney and Lisa Chambers. Galway City Council must share the blame too – their community wardens should remove posters and issue fines.
By law, posters should be removed seven days after polling day, which would be by close of business on Friday June 14.
Yet on August 7, over fifty days later, the Fianna Fáil poster was still there.
Pictured: Barry Cowen who was elected as an MEP on June 7, visited Ballybrit last week. He didn’t manage to get to the Claddagh to see his face on a Fianna Fáll election poster that was still there, 50 days later.
