The manic delights of Basil Fawlty, his long-suffering wife, Sybil, and hapless hotel waiter Manuel will be on display in Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience next week, when the popular tribute to the renowned sitcom returns to Galway Comedy Festival.

It will be staged in the Ballroom of Eyre Square’s Hardiman Hotel next Wednesday and Thursday, October 22 and 23, and in the Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill, on Friday Saturday, October 24 and 25.

The fun will start as guests wait to be seated and will continue with lots of gags and shambolic service as manic hotelier Basil, his acerbic wife Sybil and the bewildered Manuel are unleashed on diners.

Audiences will be served a 1970s-style three-course meal and a two-hour show, which the Daily Telegraph called ‘a rip-roaringly hilarious night out’, and the Sunday Express declared ‘the best comedy show I have ever been to.

As well as re-enacting scenes from the original Fawlty Towers series, the actors playing Basil, Sybil, and Manuel will serve up top-notch improv comedy, with at least 70 per cent of the show being improvised from audience interactions and whatever else happens on the night. The three employ the quirky mannerisms of Basil, Sybil and Manuel, with the aim of making diners feel they have been transported back to an original episode from the 1970s.

Faulty Towers: The Dining Experience is a show, a dinner and more. The advice to diners is “don’t mention the war”, don’t order a gin and orange, a lemon squash, or a Scotch and water, and beware that the duck’s off.

Doors for all shows are at 7pm and dinner is served from 7.30pm. The show is suitable for ages 14+. Tickets are available at www.GalwayComedyFestival.ie.
