€1.2m in additional funding for roads across Galway

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Over €1 million in additional funding has been awarded for roads across Galway.
The funding of €1.27 million has been allocated by Transport Infrastructure Ireland under the pavement capital maintenance programme.
It’ll help resurface sections of national roads across the county which are in a poor state of repair.
Locations to benefit include the N66 at Castledaly and Gort and the N63 at Brownsgrove, Dunmore, Loughgeorge, as well as Ballygar.
Works will also be carried out on the N59 at Moycullen, Ballinakill and Clifden.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Taoiseach has pledged action on the issue of Travellers in Galway living in freezing conditions.

It’s after Deputy Eamon O’ Cuiv highlighted restrictions on a new caravan loan scheme introduced by the Government.

He argued it’s unacceptable that the scheme only covers 75 caravans in the entire country – and slammed the Government for its “petty-mindedness”.

Deputy O’ Cuiv outlined how in Galway, 24 replacement caravans are urgently needed – but approval was only given for four.

He says as the temperature plummets, many Travellers are living in freezing caravans and mobile homes that are decades old.

Leo Varadkar launched Construct Innovate at a special event this afternoon, before taking a guided tour of the Alice Perry Engineering Building.

The new centre aims to accelerate research and innovation in the construction sector and position Ireland as a global leader.

Speaking outside University of Galway this afternoon, the Tánaiste said Construct Innovate will play an extremely important role.

Works underway to restore water to homes and businesses in Gort, Loughrea and Athenry

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Works are underway to restore water to homes and businesses in Gort, Loughrea and Athenry

Irish Water and Galway County Council say the Gort and Loughrea outage has been caused by technical issues overnight at the Seefin Reservoir and Gort water treatment plant.

There is also a major leak on the watermain network at Raheen, Athenry resulting in water outage at Raheen Road, Moanbaun GWS, Prospect and Derrydonnell Road.

A contractor is expected on site shortly to carry out the repair works.
