Dunkellin flood relief scheme to go to construction in 2015

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A flood relief scheme for South East Galway is expected to go to construction in the first half of 2015.

Junior Minister and Galway East TD Ciaran Cannon says the Dunkellin flood relief project is currently being progressed through An Bord Pleanala.

A cost benefit analysis is also being carried out and will be finalised next month.

Works have already taken place over the past 12 months on the section of Dunkellin between Kiltullagh and Craughwell.

However the main project between Craughwell and Kilcolgan has yet to happen.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Tánaiste says the new National Construction Technology Centre at University of Galway will help us build more, build faster, and build better.

Leo Varadkar launched Construct Innovate at a special event this afternoon, before taking a guided tour of the Alice Perry Engineering Building.

The new centre aims to accelerate research and innovation in the construction sector and position Ireland as a global leader.

Speaking outside University of Galway this afternoon, the Tánaiste said Construct Innovate will play an extremely important role.

Works underway to restore water to homes and businesses in Gort, Loughrea and Athenry

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Works are underway to restore water to homes and businesses in Gort, Loughrea and Athenry

Irish Water and Galway County Council say the Gort and Loughrea outage has been caused by technical issues overnight at the Seefin Reservoir and Gort water treatment plant.

There is also a major leak on the watermain network at Raheen, Athenry resulting in water outage at Raheen Road, Moanbaun GWS, Prospect and Derrydonnell Road.

A contractor is expected on site shortly to carry out the repair works.

Plans for Bubble Tea Shop at Abbeygate Street

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Plans are underway for a Bubble Tea Shop at Abbeygate Street.

The plan is led by Esma Awad and would see the conversion of an existing retail unit at 26 Abbeygate Street Lower.

The planning application stresses that a Bubble Tea Shop is not a coffee shop nor does it produce any type of heat or steam.

However, planners have deemed the application incomplete and a fresh application will now have to be submitted.
