Dáil hears “deep disrespect” shown to Gort over boil water notice saga

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Dáil has heard that a “deep disrespect” has been shown to the town of Gort over a long-running boil water notice in the area.
The notice – which impacts almost 3 thousand people – has been in place since February.
While Irish Water has provided periodical updates, there’s been little clarity on when the notice will be lifted.
Deputy Ciaran Cannon raised the issue in the Dáil with Housing Minister Darragh O’ Brien – and asked him to directly intervene.

30 SIPTU community workers protest in Eyre Square over pay

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Approximately 30 SIPTU workers carrying flags and banners have gathered in Eyre Square to protest over pay
The protest is part of the 24 hour work stoppage in the community sector and Section 39 organisations in Galway, Dublin and Waterford
The industrial action is part of the Valuing Community campaign, with the workers calling for their first pay rise in 14 years.

73 patients on trolleys at Galway public hospitals today

Galway Bay fm newsroom – There are 73 patients on trolleys at Galway’s public hospitals today.
There are 55 people awaiting a bed at UHG, making it the second most overcrowded hospital in the country.
Meanwhile, there are 18 patients on trolleys at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
It comes as recent figures show that last month was the worst June on record for both UHG and Portiuncula.
Nationally, the most overcrowded hospital today is University Hospital Limerick, where 83 patients are waiting for a bed.

Eight councillors across the city and county visited the European Parliament last week as guests of Midlands North West MEP, Maria Walsh.
They’ve been discussing funding opportunities for the region, with some focus on Galway Port.
