Councillor Shane Curley is in line to top the poll in Loughrea, tallies suggest.
The Fianna Fáil candidate, a teacher, has taken 18.75% of the first preference vote, according to the final tally (two boxes missing).
Then it’s neck and neck between three sitting councillors Jimmy McClearn (FG) on 16.88%; Declan Kelly (Ind Ire) on 16.84%, and Michael Moegie Maher (FG) on 16.41%.
Fianna Fáil’s Ivan Canning, in Portumna, looks likely to clinch the last seat with 12.97%, with Sinn Féin’s Ailish O’Reilly unlikely to cause him a sleepless night tonight on just 7.84%.
Another Fianna Fáil candidate Mark Larkin took 6.27%, tallies suggest.
