If you’re feeling extremely sluggish since Christmas, you’re not alone. After the frenzy of the festive season, the requisite avalanche of food and drink coupled with endless bouts of flu and Covid stubbornly persisting all around us, January has really been an energy zapper.
So, when I got an email from Med Aesthetics inviting me to try out a machine in their swish city clinic that supposedly allows your body to do the equivalent of 20,000 crunches in 30 minutes without ever leaving the bed, well it was too tempting to say no.
Kim Kardashian, Megan Fox, Denise Richards and Drew Barrymore are among the celebs who are apparently fans of the EmSculpt Neo. No doubt Kim has one in her house.
Created by BTL Aesthetics, the machine uses radio frequency and ‘high intensity focused electromagnetic energy’ to melt fat cells or interrupt fat metabolism.
Once they are liquified, they are excreted out through the liver and lymph nodes.
Well, at least that’s the theory.
Once the paddles are attached by straps to your abs – I tried thighs and belly – it simulates sit-ups. It can also be used on bum and bingo wings with a different attachment.
The muscles start involuntarily contracting in response to the waves.
Managing director and clinic co-founder Alma McGrath explains that the device heats up to 42 degrees which helps melts the fat and tighten the targeted muscles while also strengthening them.
