Progress for two county sewerage schemes

Approval has been granted for the seeking of tenders for the design, build and operation of Milltown and Claregalway sewerage schemes.
Galway East T.D. Paul Connaughton says Minister Phil Hogan has given the go-ahead for the projects.
He says progress on the long awaited schemes will help preserve water quality standards in the area.
The project is being funded under the Departments Water Services Investment Programme 2010-2013 at an estimated cost of 10.68 million for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Design Build Operate contract and 2.87 million for the Network contract.
Former city businessman jailed for drug dealing

A Malaysian businessman, who at one point owned a number of Chinese restaurants in the city has been sentenced to 3 years in jail with the final year suspended for drug dealing.
43 year old Ee San Loke, pleaded guilty before Galway Circuit Criminal Court to having €20,000 worth of cannabis herb for sale or supply at Shantalla Road on June 7 last year.
He also pleaded guilty to having 8 thousand euro worth of the drug for sale or supply at Dr Mannix Road, Salthill on January 15, 2012.
Garda Barry Walsh said Loke came to Ireland to study English in 1989.
He became a successful businessman, owning a few Chinese restaurants.
However, he gambled the restaurants away.
City seminar to assist families struggling with debt

A meeting is to be held in the city on Thursday evening (May 16) to assist families who are struggling to cope with mounting debt.
The event is hosted by New Beginnings and aims to give practical advice on how to deal with the trauma of debt as well as pressures to mental health.
Psychologist Shane Martin will also speak on self help steps for those facing financial worry.
The free seminar called ‘Bouncing Back’ takes place in the Clayton Hotel in the city and gets underway at 7 on Thursday evening.
