Galway’s best plough men and women are counting down the days to next week’s National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co Laois, where an additional draw at this year’s event will be the World Ploughing Championships.
Galway National Ploughing Association (NPA) Secretary, Maura Canning, told the Farming Tribune that “this is a big achievement for the Ploughing Association and for Ireland to welcome international delegations and their supporters from 20 countries all around the globe”.
“It’s great for a return to the Ploughing Championships, as we know it, after the behind-closed-door event of last year, due to the pandemic,” said Maura.
The World Ploughing Championships did not take place in 2020 or 2021 due to COVID-19.
Ireland has hosted the World Ploughing Championships on six previous occasions. The last time was in 2006.
