Councillor calls for free parking in Tuam during car park closure
Galway Bay fm newsroom – Tuam based county councillor Peter Roche says free parking should be made available in the town while an unauthorised car park is closed.
Last month, the High court ruled that the car park at palace grounds must close, after a case was taken against the owner, businessman Joe O’ Toole.
This decision was appealed to the Supreme Court by Joe O’ Toole and a stay was placed on the closure of the split level carpark, near Super Valu supermarket.
However, the Supreme Court has upheld the decision by Justice Hedigan in the High Court and the carpark has now closed.
There are concerns motorists will have reservations about coming into town as the car park with 260 spaces was free for use to the public.
Speaking on Galway Talks, Councillor Peter Roche says he’ll be raising the matter with council officials today.

Works paused at Roscam amid concerns over potential “traffic disaster”

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Works in Roscam have been paused amid concerns over a potential “traffic disaster”.
Active Travel Works were taking place at the junction with Doughiska Road at Spar, which would have reduced traffic to a single lane.
Councillor Alan Cheevers says this would have been absolutely crazy, given the chaotic impact it would have on local traffic coming in and out of Roscam.
He claims the area is already a major issue because of a history of bad planning, allowing almost 800 homes but only one access road.
Councillor Cheevers says this plan needs to really go back to the drawing board.
