Cosán na Naomh, a new work by renowned musician and composer, Máire Breatnach, will have its world premiere in Stiúideo Cuan, An Spidéal, from next Tuesday, September 27, to Saturday, October 1 at 8.30pm.

The piece, commissioned by Stiúideo Cuan, will be performed by piper Mick O’Brien, harper Noreen O’Donoghue and Máire herself on fiddle and viola, with sound design by Stephen O’Brien.

Cosán na Naomh is inspired by The Saints’ Path – an 18km pilgrim route through the West Kerry peninsula of Corca Dhuibhne; beginning at Ventry Beach and rising to the top of Mount Brandon. According to folklore, Ventry Beach was the scene of a 17-day battle, Cath Fionntrá, between the legendary Fianna, led by Fionn Mac Cumhaill, and Daire Donn, the powerful King of the world.

Máire’s composition follows the success of a similar project last year, explains the studio’s creative director, Darach Mac Con Iomaire.
