Corinthians RFC is set to carry out a €1.5 million expansion and upgrade at Cloonacauneen in the as the ever-expanding club – it says it is the largest in the province – is outgrowing its existing facilities at the Tuam Road venue.
The club fields teams from the All-Ireland League – where its flagship team sits second in Division 2B – all the way to rugby tots. Its ladies, youths, disability rugby and Mini rugby continue to achieve success both on and off the field, and the club is also in the process of forming a choral group.
However, the facilities at Corinthian Park are not now sufficient to deal with these increasing numbers, and as a result, the club is planning to further develop the existing pitches at Cloonacauneen with the construction of a 4G all-weather pitch with floodlighting and fencing, a new stand for the senior pitch, new dressing rooms, and a balcony viewing area as an extension of the clubhouse among other developments.
The club are also planning the installation of solar panels and battery storage and in doing so will become self-sufficient regarding the use of energy at Corinthian Park.
These developments are essential to maintain the growth and success on the field for both men and women in the club but to realise these plans funds in the region of €1,500,000 will have to be raised.
In order to achieve this, the club have undertaken a range of fundraising initiatives, the first of which will be a 90th birthday party for the club in the Galmont Hotel on New Year’s Eve, where the club will also announce further about major developments at its grounds.
