Contract signing imminent for long awaited Athenry sewerage upgrade

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The contracts for a long-awaited upgrade at Athenry’s sewerage plant will be signed in the coming weeks.
Irish Water has confirmed that the tenders for the 11.5 million euro project have been assessed and contract documents are being drawn up.
The current facility is already operating at full capacity, and as a result locals have had difficulties in securing planning permission for new developments.
Irish Water says the contract for the upgrade will be signed before the end of September.

Access to Dogs Bay and Gurteen Bay currently impassable due to Illegal parking

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Clifden Gardai have confirmed to Galway Bay FM News that access to Dogs Bay and Gurteen Bay is currently impassable due to Illegal parking in the area.

Large numbers are visiting the area today due to the warm weather conditions and the beaches in both Dogs Bay and Gurteen Bay are popular with visitors.

However, the large numbers is also leading to illegal parking making it impossible for emergency services to access the area if needed.

Clifden Gardai have confirmed that they are at the scene and will be issuing tickets to vehicles that are parked illegally.

Galway speakers to feature as Knock National Novena to return to its traditional format next week

Galway Bay FM Newsroom – The National Novena to Our Lady of Knock will return to its traditional format for the first time since 2019.

The theme for this year is ‘A Journey in Hope’ and the novena will run from tomorrow until Monday the 22nd of August.

On each of the nine days, ceremonies will take place at Knock Basilica beginning with concelebrated Mass at 3.00pm and 8.00pm, followed by contributions from guest speakers.

On Monday the 15th, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the speaker will be Roseanna Ruane, mother of Saoírse Ruane, on The Power of Prayer in Difficult Times and the speaker on Monday the 22nd will be Archbishop Francis Duffy, Archbishop of Tuam, on The Call of the Lord.

In excess of 8,000 pilgrims are expected to attend each day at the Shrine.

Inspection yields perfect compliance at mental health unit in Ballinasloe

Galway Bay Fm Newsroom – A mental health unit in Ballinasloe has received a perfect score following an inspection by the Mental Health Commission.

The Creagh Suite is located on the grounds of St. Brigid’s Campus and cares for adults with a dementia diagnosis as well as a history of mental health difficulties.

Inspectors found that while it’s an older building, it’s clean, airy, and has been developed to cater for the specific needs of an elderly population.

They further commended the painting of corridors in a streetscape style, the colour schemes and furnishings, as well as the personalisation of bedrooms.

It’s the first time the Creagh Suite has achieved a 100 percent compliance rating.
