Concerns over time frame for county storm damage funding

Published

on

Galway bay fm newsroom -A county councillor fears that the local authority could be waiting a ‘long long time’ before funding is released for storm damage repairs.

At this week’s meeting of the local authority, Councillor Michael ‘Mogie’ Maher said a letter should be sent to the relevant department asking for a date for the money.

Galway county council estimates that storm damage repair will cost 18.3 million euro, which includes 6.5 million for the coastal protection of roads.

Senior engineer Liam Gavin says the council has already spent around half a million euro doing urgent works, and submissions are now being made for funding.

Mayor of Galway, Liam Carroll and several councillors paid tribute to the dedication of staff who worked under very difficult situations during the severe weather.
