Comedy legends including Dylan Moran Phill Jupitus, Joe Rooney, Kevin Gildea, Patrick McDonnell, Steve Steen and Ian Coppinger, will be performing in three venues across the county this month as part of Galway Comedy Festival.

Dylan Moran will bring his new show, Dolla Ho, to The Raheen Woods, Athenry, next Thursday, October 23.

It was while travelling the highways and byways of Ireland in 2024 for his Work in Progress Wander, playing 50 shows in 35 towns, that Dylan honed the material he will perform in the Raheen Woods next Thursday at 7pm.

Support will be from Kevin Gildea, who, with Barry Murphy and Ardal O’Hanlon, pioneered the Irish alternative comedy boom of the 1990s.

Kevin will also join Patrick McDonnell and Joe Rooney for a show in Regan’s of Clonboo the previous night Wednesday, October 22, at 7pm, when they’ll perform The Stars of Father Ted.

Although its last episode aired more than 25 years ago, Father Ted remains hugely popular among comedy fans and the event in Regan’s will give people a chance to see these three Irish comics who featured in the iconic show.

Patrick McDonnell played the Daniel O’Donnell-spoofing country singer, Eoin McLove, who famously declared, ‘I have no willy!’; Joe Rooney shone in his episode as the gurrier priest, Fr Damo, who led poor Dougal astray; while Kevin Gildea, as Fr Cave, had  a special confession to make as the plane he was on hurtled to ground.

Joe Rooney will be on stage again when Phill Jupitus and the Improv All-Stars play Keane’s Bar, Oranmore, next Thursday, October 23 at 7pm for the Improv All-Stars show.

Phill is a comedy legend, although stand-up has taken a back seat in recent years as the Englishman pursues his love of visual arts.

However, Phill –  described by Chortle as “something of a one-man festival with his stand-up, poetry and even song” – is always happy to return to stage for Galway Comedy Festival.

The Improv All-Stars will see Phill, Joe, Irish improv legend Ian Coppinger and leading British improv comic, Steve Steen (Whose Line Is It Anyway?, Have I Got News For You), deliver a wild and wonderful night of quick-thinking, top-of-the head performances, as they transform random audience suggestions into spontaneous, never-to-be-seen-again comedy.
