College Road, Galway apartment for online auction

Digital auction: No 37 The Elms, College Road, Galway.

A three-bed duplex apartment in Galway City is set to go under the virtual hammer in a unique digital auction.

No 37 The Elms on College Road is a three-bed home spread over first and second floors, with a balcony and its own parking space. It extends to around 970 square feet and is being sold with vacant possession.

It is part of a catalogue of 22 properties which are being sold at the moment, with bidding open for 24 hours from next Tuesday morning.

Robert Hoban, Director of Auctions at Allsop Space told Tribune Property: “We are hugely excited to be introducing our online auction to the market with a modern, innovative, transparent and effective method of sale for buyers at home and abroad.

“The sale of property through a fully digital process offers vendors a new choice that also comes with the unique commitment to transparency and effectiveness that buyers expect from us.

“The online auction provides a fully transparent bidding process and a legally binding sale, allowing bidders to secure property from the comfort of their own home.

“In a ground breaking first, the entire property transaction process will be performed digitally, from catalogue to contract. Bidders can purchase property at their convenience and in comfort on their PC, tablet or smartphone.

“The Contracts for Sale will be signed electronically through the use of ISO standard digital signatures provided by Post Trust, a division of An Post.

“The payment management system is handled by GlobalCollect and the entire bidding process will be independently observed by Ernst & Young.

“Another first for property sales in Ireland is the use of digital signatures, which will allow transactions at the Allsop Space online auction to be legally binding, giving certainty to both buyer and seller.

“Following the closing of each lot, a signed Contract for Sale is emailed to the buyer, seller and their solicitors and the balance of 10% deposit (less €5,000) is due within 48 hours,” said Mr Hoban.

Bidding will open at 10am next Tuesday, July 8 and run for 24 hours, closing in 15 minute intervals on Wednesday, during which period all bids will be openly logged and displayed.

Managers in Galway companies who would like to learn how they could put artificial intelligence (AI) to work for their organisations are being encouraged to sign up for a new course.

It comes as research found that 50% of organisations around the world have adopted AI in at least one function, while 79% of organisations are also exploring or piloting AI projects.

Of those companies who have implemented AI, 63% report revenue increases in the relevant business units.

The new Artificial Intelligence for Managers postgraduate certificate is being offered by NUI Galway to those who wish to get a better understanding of AI and its implications for business and enterprises.

Participants do not need to have any coding skills; this non-technical programme will focus instead on the strategic use of AI and how businesses and management can approach the practical implementation of AI technologies within their company. Candidates will learn about the practicalities necessary for successful AI adoption including data and skills requirements, ethics and legal issues. As such the programme would suit those in management positions in sectors like telecommunications, manufacturing, pharmaceutical, biomedical, finance, marketing, automotive and more.

Glenamaddy site goes green

Green initiative…Peter Flanagan, Site Manager and John McDermott, Procurement Manager at Kingspan.

Kingspan Water & Energy in Glenamaddy is the first manufacturing plant within Kingspan’s global network of 166 manufacturing sites to have its manufacturing process completely powered by renewable energy, following the installation of BioLPG.

Following the July installation of BioLPG, the Glenamaddy site is now 100% powered by renewable energy, closely followed by Kingspan’s manufacturing plant in Aston Clinton, England, which has also reached this milestone.

The move to renewable energy has been a gradual transition over the past five years, following the introduction of renewable electricity to Kingspan Glenamaddy in 2016.

This accomplishment is aligned to the Group’s ground-breaking Planet Passionate sustainability objectives and helps Kingspan to move closer to its ambitious goal of achieving net zero carbon manufacturing* across the business by 2030.

Kingspan Glenamaddy manufactures storage solutions for numerous sectors including agri, water, domestic as well as specialist custom tanks as part of Kingspan’s Water & Energy Division.

“Over the past five years, the introduction of renewable electricity to our Glenamaddy site has delivered a significant reduction in our carbon emissions,” said Peter Flanagan, Site Manager at Kingspan Water & Energy in Glenamaddy.
