WITHOUT a doubt, Colga and Maree-Oranmore were the headline makers in Premier Division action over the weekend with BIG wins over Moyne Villa and Salthill Devon respectively, while Craughwell United picked up a valuable point in a draw with Renmore.
In the Championship, the weather took its toll on the fixture list with games involving the top sides postponed, while Corrib Celtic B were making it five wins in succession as they moved to just behind the leaders Tuam Celtic in Division Two.
Premier Division
Colga are the new Premier League leaders as they were making it five wins from six games when maintaining their unbeaten start to the season in Clarinbridge on Friday evening with a 7-1 thumping of Moyne Villa.
With Salthill Devon losing, Colga have taken over at the top of the table. Courtesy of two early goals from Tom Daly, they were in control of the exchanges quickly, before Calum Browne extended their advantage to three.
Now a retaken penalty awarded for handball and converted by Padraig Cunningham gave Moyne Villa cause for optimism and left matters at 3-1 at the break. However, the home dominance continued on the restart, as Lucas De Paulo added two more. Tom Daly got a third to complete his hat trick, before Neil Greaney wrapped up the perfect day for Colga with their seventh.
The win moved them a point clear of Devon and their day was certainly complete with the City side fell to a heavy 4-1 defeat away against Maree-Oranmore on Saturday.
Maree-Oranmore are always capable of performances like this, but it is rare for the four time defending champions to suffer such a heavy loss. It was the home side who made the better start as two goals in the opening half hour put them in command. Donnacha McNamara secured a hat trick for the home side, with a Colm Whelan goal completing their tally.
Craughwell United put two recent losses against the top two sides behind them on Saturday when they shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Renmore. An Eoin Shiel goal gave the home side an interval advantage, before Leon Daly finished a Killian Bolly cross for a second half equaliser.
