Closure order served on Westside Ethnic foodstore

Galway Bay fm newsroom – An ethnic food store in Westside is on the newly published closure orders of the Food Safety Authority of Ireland.

U Pick Store in the Westside Business Centre was served with the closure order last month for breaches including failure to adequately rodent proof the property.

The closure order was served on the 8th of October and it was lifted three days later.

On inspection, 2 dead rats were found in the dry goods storage area and a number of rodent droppings were noted throughout the room.

The retailer was also cited for having no instantaneous supply of hot water at the sinks in the butcher area in the initial stage of the inspection.

Galway Chamber joins call for greater government investment in regional airports

Galway Chamber of Commerce has joined other regional business leaders in calling for greater government support for regional airports.

Representatives of the western and midwest business community met with Taoiseach Leo Varadkar this week to highlight the importance of international connectivity via regional airports in order to achieve regional economic growth.

Presidents of Galway, Limerick, Ennis and Shannon Chambers together with the Limerick Chamber Chief Economist and CEO gathered at Government Buildings to discuss the findings of the recently published Copenhagen Economics report, against the backdrop of Brexit.

The report points to the impact that strategic business routes can have on regional economic growth.

Galway anti-racism network to hold discussion next week

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The Galway Anti-Racism Network will host a discussion next week, on challenging racism in all its forms.

The public event will give a platform to people who have experienced racism and will provide the general population with a toolkit on how to combat racism.

Speakers on the night will include a resident from one of the city’s direct provision centres, a member of the Travelling community, and a young Muslim person who will discuss their experiences of living in Galway.

The talk is designed to educate the audience on the general themes of anti-racism.

The event will take place in the Harbour Hotel, next Tuesday 26th November at 7pm.

Rugby headguard developed by Galway firm to be trialed by World Rugby

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A Galway company has come up with a new rugby headguard which it says can reduce the impact of head tackles by 75 per cent.

N-Pro, which is based in Oranmore Business Park, hopes the product can be used by senior international teams and improve safety in the game.

It comes as World Rugby is implementing a Global Law Trial for headgear over the next five years.

The N-Pro product is the first product to be trialed and will be used in competitive games at all levels globally.

The company was founded by Mark Ganly and Sarah Ganly in 2014 and has invested over one million euro in the research and design of its headguard.
