Classical treat with Daria

Classical performer Daria van den Bercken has played the piano dangling from a crane in San Paolo, Brazil, she has played it while being pulled along the canals of Amsterdam . . . and now the Dutch-Russian pianist will perform at the Emily Anderson Concert Hall NUI Galway.

Her concert, sponsored by KPMG, is The Piano has been Dancing and it will take place next Tuesday, November 21, at 8pm.

Daria has devised this programme with the theme of Music for Galway’s current season ‘Let’s Dance!’ in mind.

She will perform Handel’s Suite in D minor 428, Scarlatti’s three Sonatas K183/K54/K119, Stravinsky’s Tango, Debussy’s Les fées dans d’exquises Danseuses, Mozart’s Sonata in A Major K. 331 ‘alla Turca’, and two mazurkas and a polonaise by Chopin.

Daria van den Bercken’s aim as a performer is to appeal to existing classical-music lovers and new fans alike.

She has performed with philharmonic orchestras across Europe and Asia and, as a recitalist, has made frequent appearances in festivals in Amsterdam, New Ross, Istanbul and Vienna.
