A city school’s ‘Waste to Wellness’ project has scooped top prize in a national competition.
St Patrick’s Primary School, Lombard Street, won out in the Second, Third & Fourth Class category in the 2024/2025 Bord na Móna Primary Schools Upcycling Competition.
From transforming recycled materials into gardens, wildlife habitats, rainwater harvesters, sensory areas and more — the city school’s pupils have shown that creativity, care for the environment, and teamwork can truly make a difference.
Bord na Móna praised the project for its innovation, passion, and impact, and awarded it a €1,000 prize and a Category Winner Certificate, which will be proudly displayed at the school.
The Primary Schools Upcycling Competition is designed to provide students with a platform to raise awareness about upcycling as an environmentally friendly practice, while fostering creativity and innovative thinking.
The school has expressed thanks to the pupils, staff, parents, and community partners who supported the project every step of the way.
Together, they turned waste into wellness — and into a winning project!
