City man to face trial over assault with golf club

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A 46 year old man has been sent forward for trial charged with assaulting another man with a golf club.

Cormac Lee with an address at 103 Tirellan Heights, Headford Road appeared in custody before Galway District Court this week.

Lee is charged with intentionally or recklessly causing serious harm to another man at Tirellan Heights on May 22nd last.

He is further charged with producing a golf club while committing an offence.

Judge Mary Fahy remanded Lee in custody with consent to bail and sent him forward for trial to the next sittings of Galway Circuit Criminal Court in October.

Michael Fitzmaurice says proposed EU rewetting laws will devastate stock levels

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice says proposed EU laws on the rewetting of drained peatlands being used for agriculture will devastate stock levels.

The regulations have high reclaimation targets set – 30 percent by 2030, 50 percent by 2040 and 70 percent by 2050.

Farmers have expressed fierce opposition to the proposals but Minister Eamon Ryan confirmed his support in a Dáil exchange with Deputy Michael Fitzmaurice.

Speaking to Galway Talks, Deputy Fitzmaurice says if it comes to pass, the impact on stock will be devastating.

County council seeks funding for Athenry to Oranmore cycleway

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Galway County Council has submitted a funding application for a new cycleway connecting Athenry to Oranmore.

It would be funded under Transport Minister Eamon Ryan’s Pathfinder grant programme for cycling and walking schemes.

The Athenry/Oranmore cycleway proposes to connect both areas and surrounds to Galway city.
