A 22-year-old man accused of having a knuckleduster to inflict injury in Eyre Square has been told it is important he abides by his bail conditions.

Jimmy Sweeney, with an address at 27 Ballinfoyle Park, Headford Road, is charged that on June 29 at Eyre Square, he had a three-finger knuckleduster intended unlawfully to cause injury/incapacitate or intimidate a person.

The offence is contrary to section 9(4) of the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act.

Sergeant Joanne McGhee told Galway District Court she did not yet have directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on now the case is to proceed.

Garda Damien Gormley said there was no objection to bail subject to the accused signing on at a local Garda station.

Garda Gormley said the signing-on condition was being sought as the charge before the court was “quite serious”.

Judge Catherine Ryan remanded the accused on bail to appear again on December 3 and told him it was important he abided by the bail conditions.
