City Hall refurbishment to begin later this month
Galway Bay fm newsroom – A successful tender has been selected to upgrade the council chamber furniture at City Hall.
The new furniture contract is valued at 37 thousand euro and is required to accommodate an increase in councillors after the local elections in May.
The wider refurb of the chamber on College Road will cost in the region of 115 thousand euro.
A spokesperson for City Hall says the chamber has not been upgraded since 1985.
It will be out of commission from the end of this month until the first meeting of the new council sits in June.
It’s understood arrangements are now being made to hold meetings in an alternative space in City Hall during this time, on an interim basis.
The city council will increase in size by three extra councillors after the local elections in May.

Galway Community Circus one of five organisations to receive €100,000 in funding

From Galway Bay fm newsroom- Galway Community Circus, based in Shantalla, have been awarded over €100,000 in social enterprise funding.
The Rethink Ireland funding is spotlighting just five organisations working to improve the lives of others.
Galway Community Circus was set up in 2002, to bring the art of circus to young people across Galway.

Galway Bay fm newsroom – A local councillor is seeking to develop a Sensory Garden at the Long Point in Loughrea.
The outdoor amenity can help improve physical fitness, health, mood and cognition.
Councillor Geraldine Donohue thinks now is the time to consider adding one to Loughrea, as part of the “Vision of the Enhancement of the Long Point”.
