City general post office set for major refurbishment
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The city’s general post office is set for a major refurbishment.
The board has approved a major refurbishment of the interior and exterior of the building which is based on Eglington Street.
Work will begin as soon as the requisite planning and procurement procedures are complete.
Spokesperson for An Post Angus Laverty says the first signs of work at the premises should be evident in the next few weeks.

Excel Recruitment announce jobs boost for Galway office and region

Galway Bay FM newsroom – Excel Recruitment has announced 10 jobs for its Galway city office, while it’s also recruiting for 120 other opportunities in the region.
The company is adding 100 office jobs across its five locations nationwide.
While in the wider Galway region, Excel is recruiting staff for temporary and permanent positions on behalf of other employers.

Galway public share concerns on knife crime

Galway Bay fm newsroom – The public have been sharing their concerns about knife crime in Galway City.
It’s as figures show there were almost 400 incidents recorded by Gardaí in Galway since 2016.
Nationally, there’s been an increase of around 60 percent in knife crime during that time.
David Nevin spokes to members of the public to ask if they were concerned about the figures.

Plans lodged for significant windfarm near Maam Cross

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Plans have been lodged for a significant new windfarm near Maam Cross.
The Tullaghmore Wind Farm project would be based on lands 6km east of Maam Cross and 9km west of Oughterard.
Led by EMPower, the project would be six turbine, with an overall height of 185 metres.
It’s estimated the windfarm would generate enough electricity to power almost 22 thousand Irish homes.
County planners are due to make a decision in March.
