City Councillors call for clamp-down on derelict sites
Galway bay fm newsroom – Concerns have been raised over the number of derelict sites in the city.
Cllr Declan McDonnell told this week’s meeting of the City Council that he was aware of a site currently being used for illegal trading and demanded action.
Cllr Collette Connolly argued that the local authority adopts a ‘softly-softly’ approach on derelict sites.
Joe O’Neill, Director of Services for Housing and Environment said the problem is much bigger in the last two to three years.
He stressed that officials fully intend to pursue those until a satisfactory response is obtained.

Request for more time to build sports facility at Inishbofin appealed to planning board
From Galway Bay FM newsroom- The county council’s refusal of an application for more time to develop a sports facility at Inishbofin has been appealed to An Bord Pleanála.
The plan led by Inishbofin Development Company C-L-G to request extra time for the project was refused by the council in April.
The development at Middlequarter involves a single storey sports facility to include dressing rooms, referee room, showers and toilets.
An Bord Pleanála is due to issue a decision in September.

From Galway Bay FM newsroom- The Athenry Agricultural Show is returning tomorrow for the first time since 2019.
As with previous years, there will be a wide range of classes in categories such as showjumping, equine, sheep and dog showing, and baking.
Many categories will hold championships, and a range of qualifiers for other shows throughout the country will also be available.
