City Council completes survey into Ballinfoille Park sewerage system
Galway Bay fm newsroom – An extensive survey of a problematic sewerage system in a city housing estate has been completed by Galway City Council.
The survey of the drainage system and sewers in Ballinfoyle Park was conducted by the Drainage Section of the City Council following health and safety concerns.
The issue was raised by a Ballinfoyle Resident’s Group, who lodged an objection to Council plans to undertake proposed works in the area last June.
The proposed works included the demolition and replacement of a fire-damaged house at Ballinfoyle Park, and the renovation of a former community house at the estate.
Councillors gave the plans the go-ahead on the condition that a full report was drawn up on the sewerage system in the area, which the Residents Group described as a ongoing health hazard since 2012.
It is expected that Director of Services Tom Connell will meet with local residents in the coming weeks to discuss the findings of the survey.
The Official plans and the timeline for the Renville Sports and Community Grounds have been announced to members of the Oranmore-Maree GAA One Club and residents of the local area at an open information morning held in the Galway Bay Golf Resort.
Club and community members were given a first look at the finalised plans for the grounds as well as a timeline for the project that will see the construction of four pitches and ancillary facilities for Renville Sports and Community Grounds at a cost of €3 million with full completion of the project ready for use in 2025.
Oranmore/Maree One Club Development Officer Derek Cullinane said that this morning was a milestone in the plans for the project.
Chairperson of Renville Sports and Community Grounds Padraig O’Callaghan said they are delighted to be at this stage of the project.
The Health Minister has admitted that conditions at the Emergency Department at UHG during his recent visit were “unacceptable”.
Stephen Donnelly was in Galway last Friday to open a new Primary Care Centre in Moycullen, and visit UHG.
Speaking in the Seanad, Senator Sean Kyne said people in Galway are “sick of hearing about plans” and need to see action on the ground.
Minister Donnelly accepted that progress has been far too slow to date – but real progress is now being made on a range of vital projects.
They include a new elective hospital and surgical hub at Merlin Park, as well as a new regional cancer centre and paediatric/maternity block at UHG.
But Minister Donnelly admitted conditions at UHG during his visit were far from ideal.
Galway Bay FM Newsroom – Gardaí and a local councillor are appealing to visitors to Connemara beaches this weekend to park responsibly.
Gardaí have a particular focus on Dogs Bay and Gurteen Beach in Roundstone.
With thousands of visitors expected, they’re asked to be mindful of where and how they park their vehicles, to avoid causing obstructions to other road users and emergency services.
