The one and only Máirtín O’Connor will be in the city’s Town Hall Theatre on Monday next, June 12, at 8pm. The Galway accordion player and composer will be joined by bandmates Cathal Hayden (fiddle) and Séamie O’Dowd (guitar).
The three, all formidable musicians in their own right, have been performing as a trio since 2001 under the title of The Máirtín O’Connor Band. Their concerts are lively, vibrant affairs, with superb music at the core of everything they do.
This is the last in a series of concerts with Máirtín and the band, and it’s supported by the Arts Council, in association with Music Generation Galway City.
Separately, from this Saturday, June 10, until June 12 young musicians will have the opportunity to collaborate with Máirtín, Cathal and Séamie, creating arrangements of tunes and songs; exploring accompaniment, improvisation and composition.
On Monday, the final day of these workshops, participants will share the stage with the legendary artists during their Town Hall performance. The students will showcase the arrangements they have worked on during the masterclass series.
These masterclasses are suitable for people aged between 14 and 18 years and open to all instrumentalists from Intermediate to Advanced level. Singers with proficiency on an instrument are also welcome to apply. Because places are limited, it is subject to application.
For further information or to apply, go to www.soundwaves musicspace.com.
The fee for participation is €30, which includes the concert ticket.
Tickets for concert only are €18/16 plus booking fee at www.tht.ie.
