Carna conference to explore the emigration of women of the Atlantic coast

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Carna is to host a major emigration conference this weekend.
The three day event will focus on emigration and the women of the Atlantic coast.
The confernece will be officially opened on Friday evening where an art exhibition composed by women from Cill Chiarain and Carna will be showcased.
Saturday’s highlights include a discussion on the women of the west in England and a debate on the continuing effects of emigration on the Carna and Cill Chiarain area.
The ticketed event takes place at the Connemara Emigrants Commemorative Centre in Carna.

Gardaí appeal for information for missing 25 year old Loughrea man

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Gardaí have issued an appeal for a 25 year old man missing from Loughrea.

Shane Walsh was last seen in Portumna on Wednesday 29th March.

Shane is described as around 6 foot tall, with brown shaved hair and blue eyes, and was last seen wearing dark denim jeans, a black hoody and a navy gilet.

Shane is believed to be travelling in an 11-G-8916 black Ford Fiesta.

Anyone with information on Shane’s whereabouts is asked to contact Loughrea Garda Station, the Garda Confidential Line, or any Garda Station.

Boil Water Notice issued for 1,000 customers Loughrea Town

Galway Bay fm newsroom – Irish Water has issued a Boil Water notice for around 1,000 customers in Loughrea Town.

It’s due to the detection of low chlorine residuals and elevated levels of iron in the public water supply.

A map of the affected area is available on water.ie.

It includes customers in the following areas: Castle Street, Church Street, King Street, Kelly Street, Piggott Street, Moore Street, Dolphin Street, Mount Carmel Crescent, Athenry Road, Liam Mellows Terrace, Cross Street, Old Galway Road (Westbridge Junction to Coys Boreen Junction), Woodford Road (Barrack Street/Cross Street Junction southwards to St. Brendan’s Day Care Centre, Bride Street and The Hill (Main Street/Station Road Junction to Garrybreedia), Caheronaun (Junction of Caheronaun Road/Bride Street to Caheronaun Park), Abbey Street, Gallows Hill, Cosmona (Junction of Dolphin Street/Abbey Street to Old Cosmona via Gallows Hill).

Irish Water is working closely with Galway County Council to lift the Boil Water Notice as soon as possible.
