Cappataggle 0-17
Moycullen 0-10

Job done! Cappataggle avoided a shock defeat to surprise packets Moycullen as Michael Broderick’s side did enough to set up a quarter final with St Thomas’ without ever hitting top gear.
The foundations for this win were laid in the opening half as Cappataggle led 0-9 to 0-7 at half time after playing against a gale-force breeze during the opening period. The winners then struck six points in the opening 10-minute spell of the final 30 minutes to move out of reach.
What followed was rather forgettable as neither side scored for 14 minutes, with Cappataggle attempting speculative efforts from out the field; while Moycullen, who hadn’t appeared in a senior hurling championship knockout game since 1972, sought to work goals when keeping the scoreboard ticking over may have placed Cappy under greater strain.
However, Cappataggle always looked comfortable, with Moycullen failing to score from play in the second-half with three placed balls the sum total of their efforts. The 2021 intermediate champions went over half an hour without a score during this contest. Despite this defeat, Moycullen can reflect on a campaign that will live long in the memory for their supporters as they will hurl in Senior A next year.
