BYD sales in Galway have grown exponentially in 2025 with the brand consistently in the top 3 for Electric and Plug In Hybrid vehicle sales during 2025.
As of Sunday last, November 30, BYD is now the second most popular brand of vehicle for Galway buyers of plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles, combinedly known as ‘New Energy Vehicles’.
With 157 registrations of NEVs to end of November, BYD commanded a 10.8% share of the Galway plug-in hybrid and electric vehicle market, second only to Hyundai.
On top of that, with 65 registrations year to date in Galway, the BYD Seal U DM-i is Galway’s second most popular plug-in hybrid SUV, ahead of the Toyota Rav-4 PHEV, the Ford Kuga PHEV, the Hyundai Sante Fe and the Kia Sportage PHEV.
“It is a testament to the superior technology and ingenuity of the BYD brand that it has very quickly become a top three player in the Galway new car market in such a short space of time,” Niall Cunningham, managing director at BYD Galway, told the Connacht Tribune.
“Having just started as a BYD dealer in January 2025, we are really amazed and delighted to be able to represent a brand that can command a higher market share than established volume brands like Toyota and Volkswagen and premium brands such as Audi and BMW in plug-in hybrid and electric Vehicles in such a short space of time”.
“We are very also excited about several new models launching in 2026, including the BYD Atto 2 DM-I [pictured], a B-segment cross over vehicle, which will be on sale in early 2026 with an efficient Plug In Hybrid drivetrain.
BYD Galway has a number of 2026 offers now in place with 3.5% APR financing on all EV models and 4.9% APR on PHEV models.
BYD Galway is based at Cunningham Autopoint, a leading Galway motor retailer operating from a high-profile premises just off exit 19 of the M6 motorway at Carnmore on the eastern approach to Galway City.
Now 30 years in business, BYD has its manufacturing base in China and will soon start to build vehicles for the European market at a new plant in Hungary, and since its arrival, BYD has been warmly welcomed by motor industry commentators and by its growing community of owners.
That has been shown by its success as one of Ireland’s top-selling EV model ranges, and by the achievement of BYD ATTO 3 in winning the coveted Continental Irish Small Compact SUV 2024 award and the success of the BYD SEAL winning the Continental Irish Large Car of the Year 2025 award, presented by members of the Motoring Media Association of Ireland.
Hallmarks of BYD models are its wide range of all-inclusive standard features, highly competitive price offering and the appeal its range has for eco-friendly Irish motorists keen to embrace lower cost motoring. In addition, all components are manufactured by BYD in-house, including its unique cobalt-free Blade Battery, ePlatform 3.0 and intelligent Super DM (Dual Mode) technology.
