Salthill/Knocknacarra recovered from their third round defeat to Mountbellew/Moylough to record their third win of the championship, overcoming city rivals St James’ in Pearse Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

John O’Mahony’s charges were deserved winners on the day, even if the final score appeared harsh on a St James’ side which competed well throughout the match.

Pat Fallon’s charges made a positive start to the game, with an early point from the lively Dan McNulty. Two minutes later, county star Paul Conroy landed a long range free from 55 yards to double their advantage. The Seasiders got off the mark shortly after, when Rob Finnerty kicked a point from the left wing.

They soon got into their stride, with Tomo Culhane pointing from a mark, before Brian Conlon finished off a good move with a hand passed score. James’ equalised when McNulty pointed a free, but Salthill/Knocknacarra were really starting to motor and tallied three successive points.
