Bomb squad evacuate homes in Galway City

From this week’s Galway City Tribune – Eight houses were evacuated in Rahoon earlier this week after a suspected pipe bomb was discovered by Gardaí in a field off the Letteragh Road.
An Army EOD (Explosives Ordnance Disposal) unit from Athlone was called to the scene to examine the nature of the device.
Eight nearby houses were evacuated at around 11am on Wednesday morning, while the Letteragh Road was also closed off for nearly three hours – it re-opened around 2pm.
The device was examined by the EOD team before being taken to Athlone for a forensic analysis.
