Formed in 2015, Rua Sound is one of Galway’s longest running electronic music labels; to date spawning nineteen records of exploratory jungle and drum & bass, always placing an emphasis on fresh sounds and underground artists capable of provoking dancefloors.
Among the label’s releases are projects from Sully, Arcane and Sun People – each of whom are set to feature on the lineup for their first weekend long event.
Taking place in Áras na nGael on October 14/15, Rua Sound’s weekender is the latest pop-up mini festival to emerge in Galway post-Covid. Alongside the label’s chosen five international acts – Henry Greenleaf and Itoa among those already mentioned – there is a strong contingent of emerging Irish artists in the form of Little O, Colm McGinley, Bé, Ema, SectionFive, DJ Egg, Hannah Hession and Kelsey Sheridan.
“It wasn’t easy at all,” label co-founder Rob Flynn says of piecing together the line-up.
“We’ve put out nineteen records so far and a lot of those people are friends of mine that I know quite well. We had this thing before the pandemic that we’d always get to know people. It’s a kind of a club that you’re in, a record label, and it should be a supportive network.
“We really lost that over the pandemic, and I was thinking about it when I moved back to Galway, that it would be really nice to get a bunch of the artists together. [It’s tricky] to figure out which ones to bring over because Áras na nGael is a 150-capacity venue so you can’t go too big on it.
