Arts Week with Judy Murphy
A new production of John Keane’s The Matchmaker – which recently competed a run at Dublin’s Gaiety Theatre Dublin – will visit Galway’s Town Hall Theatre this Saturday night, October 15.
It features actor and comedian Jon Kenny and actress Norma Sheahan who is also well-known for comedic skills.
Together they play a myriad of characters in Michael Scott’s adaptation of Keane’s earthy comedy, which follows the efforts of Dicky Mick Dicky O’ Connor to make matches for lonely and lovelorn people.
Using his sense of mischief and wit, Kerry novelist and playwright John B Keane delved into the longings, hungers, fears and foibles of lonely rural residents to create these characters and their colourful world.
The play takes the audience back to another time, when phones of any sort were almost non-existent and the only web that existed was one created by a spider.
