Truman Town Theatre is holding auditions in Galway next week for its upcoming production, Outlaw Pete, written and directed by Mick Donnellan.
These will take place next Thursday and Friday, January 30 and 31, in the Town Hall Theatre studio space from 11am to 1pm and 2.30pm to 5pm each day. The audition slots are 15 minutes each.
Outlaw Pete is about three complicated characters, whose lives collide at a critical moment in their existence.
Pete, newly released from prison, arrives at Jane’s door to win her back. But Jane is now married to Dave, who isn’t willing to let Pete disrupt their life. As tensions rise, Jane’s doubts about her marriage surface, revealing that Dave is far from the perfect husband he seems.
Mick is casting for all three roles in the piece, which he describes as “dark comedy, noir and character-driven”.
Auditions are open/walk-in, but Mick is advising people to contact him in advance in order to select a character and receive audition samples.
Casting will be confirmed in early February and rehearsals will take place from mid-February to mid-March for up to three evenings/afternoons a week. Mick plans to have Outlaw Pete ready for performance by April or May, and intends to hit the festival circuit during the summer.
An author and playwright, Mick’s film credits include Tiger Raid, adapted from his play Radio Luxembourg.
Starring Brian Gleeson, Damian Molony and Sofia Boutella, it was accepted by the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival in New York and was also seen at Cannes and Edinburgh, with the Irish premiere being at the Galway Film Fleadh.
His play Nally was supported by Westmeath Arts Office, and a monologue he wrote, The Crucified Silence, was selected for the Scripts Ireland Play festival 2020. It received a week of intensive workshops with playwright Eugene O’Brien, after which it was performed by Aaron Monaghan, directed by Jim Culleton.
Mick has written five novels and he received an Agility Award from the Arts Council in 2023, and the Mayo Theatre Bursary 2024.
He was recently part of Galway Theatre Development Programme, run by director Andrew Flynn in conjunction with the Town Hall Theatre.
Anyone interested in auditioning for Outlaw Pete should send a CV/showreel/expression of interest to mickdonnellan@hotmail.com, mentioning the part they are reading for.
