Galway Bay fm newsroom – Athenry recorded the wettest day in all of Ireland last month.
Figures released by Met Eireann show the area had the highest rainfall on August 1st as just over 30 millimetres.
Data examining the three-month summer period shows that the majority of stations had their driest summer in seven years.
July had the warmest conditions with nine stations reporting heatwave conditions from the 7th to the 13th.
Seamus Walsh is a Climatologist with Met Eireann and says the Athenry August rainfall came at the end of a warm and humid spell.
Macnas to welcome special visitor over Halloween
Galway Bay fm newsroom- Galway is set to welcome a unique visitor over the Halloween weekend.
Macnas have announced that they are expecting the giant CON MÓR to emerge from the River Corrib.
Giant expert Marjorie Morrigan identified CON MÓR, a member of the Irish legends, Tuatha Dé Danann, as originating from an Island of Giants off the coast of Connaught.
CON MÓR was known to love all things nature, especially birds. Spectators are encouraged to bring feathers for CON MÓR when going to see him.

First block laid in expansion at Western Alzheimers Respite Centre
Galway Bay fm newsroom- The first block has been laid today on a major multi-million euro expansion at the Western Alzheimers Centre in Ballindine.
The new complex will increase the number of beds from 12 to 20, and provide improve communal resident and visitor areas.

HSE considering new entrances to Merlin Park Hospital
Galway Bay fm newsroom- The HSE has expressed interest in creating new entrances to Merlin Park Hospital.
The matter was raised at a meeting of the Health Forum West by Councillor Declan McDonnell, who queried if it was under active consideration.
The HSE executive confirmed it was something they are mindful of, noting a particular need for a lighted junction as the hospital gets busier.
Councillor McDonnell feels it’s something that’s needed sooner rather than later.
